More section

light tests

one orange omni with refractive index .7 on the lens
spot volumetric from above 1609%

Hdri seems to not be working in these
12 white volumetric spot lights 200% from windows and one orange omni 25%

More hdri test

This has been slowed down to 50% to make the flicker less of a problem. Need to render it out with two and a half times the number of frames and speed up the hairs movement.
Change the refractive index of the lens so that the image becomes more curved as the shot progress
Zoom into the centre emily
Add some fog
Turn off most of the lights to get rid of the flicker
Add sparkly particles which look like sparkles of light coming from the dome
Emily in the foreground shouldn't be slowed down as she looks static at the moment

Slowed down hdri from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

light test no flicker from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

section cut lines

to do at a2 size

Animation test Final Scene

The flicker is caused by the global illumination settings. This render took 4 hours 20 minutes. It uses Hdri aswell as ten volumetric and one ambient light. I've just sent it off with an upped min resolution of samples which is apparently meant to work to fix the flicker.

Hdri test Flicker problem from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

HDRI LIGHTS

Section and final scene with fisheye working

It really needs a lot more done to it to be good
The ground line needs to include foundation like structures, the cut line needs to variate a lot more and be filled in. More connections, drawbridges stairwells between spaces need to be included:
but not today
and the colour needs to be sorted out.
Also a framing of the scene with a massive cut around its border, would make it better compositionally

Final scene progress

Initial test with some lights and the neuron grass floor, need to play around with shadows more and light it with hdri
volumetric light coming from above
one of more to come volumetric coming in one of the windows from the dome

Initial test with fish eye lens, the hair doesn't render through the lens which is a problem

A test render of the neuron floor moving

Neuron grass low res from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

To add: the growing vines, particles exploding in light bursts and floating upwards (c4d), will probably need to be done on a separate alpha channel render and adding in AE as the computer might explode.

Windows and Doors of significance

Low res tests for Mirror scene

Untitled from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

The background will be very dark in this with the cosmos in her eye as the focus of attention. Some tendrils will be moving in the background. Model still needs some reading desks

think its better without the zoom. I'll just straight cut from the zoom eye scene to this

Aerial sequence

Colours need to be toned down a bit so its not shiny

Need to transition it with emily's eye next

Untitled from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

the final scenes to model

Mega modelling required for these. I'm going to attach materials as textures where I can but a lot modelling will be needed for anything that is obviously in relief

Intro potentially

Intro...and beginning of Part1 from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

The intro for Part 1

The title bit doesn't match it...needs to be different

Part 1: Losing memory: The accident

Part 2: First stage in regaining memory, small awakenings: Seeing the outside of the library deadened, entering the first doorway and encountering the growing corridor and looking at a book. In the bedroom, watching the flickering of the light and the fan in an abstract way. Initial blurry view of the bedroom

Part 3 : Entering the labyrinthine structure of the mind, unlocking all of the avenues that lead to one another: The pulling out of the scale part through the section drawing into the scale of the cosmos: In the bedroom, as the connections are being remade, the annomolies that occur because of them, hallucinating the bird woman. Memories coming back. The curtains blowing in the wind.

Part 4: Finale: Achieving consciousness and self awareness. Through the final door she finds herself in a great mirrored hall of the library where she sees herself. The transistion is from the reflection in her eye. The bedroom is more modern and brighter, the birdwoman is gone she rises and looks in the mirror. In the hall she looks up and sees the dome it merges into a fan

the end

redparticles from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

Red particles eye test from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

Particles in C4d are a nightmare. They eat RAM, this started off as a much more iris like form but I had to axe most of it just to get it to render and not crash instantly

I'll need to mess around with the colour to get it to sync with Emily's eye

I need to de-shinify it to match the rest of the library. I've done an initial test with this one with water colour paper overlaid

Most things on a timeline

strung together may 11 with sound from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

I need to think about the transitions between the two worlds

The frosty hands and birdwoman need to be separate

The structure of the film as a series of parts needs to be decided upon - I'm grouping them according to procession, so both worlds in each one, there needs to be a harmony that links them in each case.

How the drawings define these parts needs to be decided

need to blur the focus on the birdwoman as she looks a little comical which isn't meant to be the case

Monday to do

Finish aerial scene completely

Tests with section for film

New run through of film with sound

Elevation dome and below on section

Particle test for Aerial Eye scene

Particle test for aerial eye from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

-get rid of island and add in after effects

-zoom through from centre and wind out so that you go through the particles

-suck out fast to reveal it as a nebula in an iris shape, add pupil in ae to look like city

smallest door in domed area detail

test with light by fire

Aerial test with some basic lights and landscape

Aerial test with mograph from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

I think it only needs a little more detail on the landscape

The lights need to change

Add the particles next

Section with fire overlaid

aerial scene camera movement test

add the particles and include the mograph, landscape

the beginning of this shot will need to have the section attached

between this shot and the particles, there could be an interim ae scene

Aerial Camera test 2 from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

Section Progress

Trying to differentiate the different levels by colour. They'll look better once I've applied the lighting effect to them which will get rid of the pastel hues.

Next to do is:

the door out from the domed area

the spine line along the roof

Bird Woman with a) blur and b) turning

Birdwoman progress 4: Blur from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

Birdwoman progress 5:Closeup and change from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

For Friday the 8th

Slower birdwoman part 1: side facing, with initial blur and flickering light

closeup birdwoman facing

Superimpose fan moving over it, test

Build door in AE

Add a fan to AE?

Finish central dome area (mirror room) on collage

Tests for aerial / eye view
1. in c4d with particles (already built) change to red instead of pink
2. In Ae with fire growing out

Try to meld the two

Test with new collage
1. closeup that incorporates dandelion growing somehow

Aerial view of growing city

- this is to become the centre of emily's eye, a whirling cosmos with particles and lights forming the surround. Need to make it integrate with the collage aesthetic of the other scenes (in library in particular)

Birdwoman progress clip

Birdwoman progress3 from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

Birdwoman progress2 from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

(In 3. fix the bed clothes more, slow it down a lot)

nothing really happens in this

edit so that:

the room sharpens into focus from a blur. The music creates tension while there is inactivity. Only 2/3 seconds at a time. Starts just before she folds her hands at 6 seconds. Then there is a closer shot. Then the bird woman turns and faces her, then close up for horror effect

Make the light from the lamp ebb and flow a little more (current effect not noticeable)

change the bed clothes so it looks like there is someone in the bed looking down over their legs etc. (if possible)

post effect add the flicker and shadow of a fan (think I'll do this as a render from c4d overlaid onto the scene) Maybe I should do that tonight...

Section laid out with collage

refining the section

Initial idea is too big to achieve:

This one is still massive but much smaller and includes all elements in the film. Images are for details in the drawing

1:25 section through dome started

Looking a little too like a jelly for my liking at the moment

Birdwoman progress

The new one: the all purpose section

This will be a relief drawing where various backgrounds and views are visible through chinks, windows and gaps. Emily inhabits all as this drawing is representational of the minds process of being in the present and past simultaneously. The central point of the drawing isthe domed space at its centre. This in turn will act as the main stage set for the final scene. This drawing will be done by Saturday

more ugly test render

character added just for scale.

I don't think it will do more than a 10 or 5 degree rotation at a time. Might render it out big enough so that only the sphere part is visible.

Can't get rid of the double sphere effect as to get the fisheye effect the camera can't lie within the lens (the glass sphere)

Fisheye test with a little material from N Nivreen on Vimeo.

corner piece for mirror scene in library

To be used as the material for an element in th mirror scene.

Two more flanking columns of shelves to be done and the cap piece.
